Our Vespa 100 Sport

This is our Vespa 100 Sport.  We have had this little beauty for quite a few years and had it sitting in our basement until this past winter when my husband decided to resurrect this scooter and I am so glad he did.  I normally ride a P200 that I adore but it has had electrical issues and we have been working through those issues one at a time.  So, that leaves me with riding this little bike with half the ccs, but I have slowly fallen in love with the maneuverability and the quaint little size of this bike.  Also, this past weekend we attended a rally in Baltimore called Big Trouble in Little Baltimore and brought home the award for best Vespa.  How great is that?  Plus, it was a super fun event and the bike performed beautifully.

Herb Drying Rack (Tomato Cage)

I was cleaning up my herb bed and realized I didn't have a herb drying rack.  I have used my pot rack in the past but I really wanted something just for the herbs and something that might look cool in my kitchen.  I saw a quick pic online of the round herb rack and thought, "That looks like a tomato cage".  Hmmmm.  My mind was working and I quickly gathered my things together, but here it is mid-November and I don't have a tomato cage.  I ran down to the local hardware store and behold, a tomato cage.  I had an idea that I would wrap the stakes that go into the ground with some wire (I used some old picture hanging wire I had laying around) and then bend the ends to make hooks on the bottom.  This would give me three more hooks to hang some lavender.  This worked brilliantly.  I bought a small piece of chain (Lowe's $1.83) and a wire twisty thing (<$1.00) to put on the top ring of the rack.  I placed a hook (had in the house) in the ceiling and hung up my herb rack.  Now, I just left it plain but you could do all sorts of adornment and decorate this real pretty to match your kitchen decor.  I really did think of wrapping some white lights around it but I didn't feel like dealing with running the cord and such.  I tied up all my herbs with some twine I had and tied them to the rack.  You could get some S hooks and hang them on the rack which would be easier to remove your herbs but I didn't have but I might pick some up when I see some.  I think Bed Bath and Beyond have a pack of S hooks for a pot rack which might run around $6.  I'm not sure on that.  Anyway, have a good time and enjoy your herbs through the fall and winter seasons.  This project took me about 30 minutes once I had all my supplies. The total cost of this project was around $8.00.   (Side note, that is just water in my mason jar.)

Friends of Lynchburg Dog Park Opens

I can't believe how exciting it is to actually have a dog park here in Lynchburg!  Today was opening day for the "Friends of Lynchburg Dog Park" Dog park.  ?  Anyway, Lynchburg just a bit cooler, finally.  This town is slow at change but there are few here that have come together and encouraged many to get involved and help raise the funds to get a dog park.  It is awesome for this community.  I am excited, really!  Ava, my gsd, lovessss it!

Microfiber: I Swear By It!

Microfiber:  I Swear By It!
I am preparing to go to school and I am looking for ways to cut back on products or things we buy and use at home.  I have bought cloth napkins and we are using those instead of paper napkins.  I wanted to take it a step further and stop using rolls and rolls of paper towels.  I was in Sam's Club the other day shopping and saw a flatbed with a bunch of cleaning supplies on it including a pack of microfiber towels.  I thought, "Hey, I wonder how much those are?"  I went over to the janitorial supplies and found the microfiber towels.  They come in a pack of 24 and are just $11.99.  That is 50 cents per towel.  Sounds like a bargain.  I think I will buy a pack.  Now, I have a book on thrifty things for the house and it is chock full of vinegar and baking soda recipes, but it also has a section on microfiber towels.  It says to just use water and that's it.  So I tried it!

Here is a specimen to try first.  This is my side table on my front porch

I have my bucket of hot water and my towels.  You can see that I have one wet one in the bucket and one dry towel

(Before) Next, I used my wet towel and began cleaning the glass

I wiped both sides of glass (please excuse black spot on table, my daughter decided to use the Hibachi grill on the table one afternoon while entertaining friends)

(After) Tada!  (Yes, the table is dirty, but I don't have a hose out front)

I also did the big windows on the front of the house (outside only)

Finished!

I did all my transom windows in the house, the front door windows, the back door windows, and mirrors in the house.  I just cannot believe how awesome they come out and with no cleaning products.  Water only.  I did have to empty the water a couple times and fill up with clean water.  It was looking a little nasty.

One thing that I find cool is that the microfiber towels come in multiple colors, so you could but several packs and use them for different household tasks.  I bought yellow first.  I will use these for cleaning the house and I will go back and buy a different color for just keeping the kitchen clean.
I highly recommend this way of cleaning.  Not only does it save you money but you also help save the environment from chemicals.
